This is Qiao's story of when she came out to her mum.
When Qiao was a little girl she felt curious because she found herself attracted to girls. She did not know the exact word to define herself because it was rare to see words like lesbian or gay or LGBT at that time in China.
Qiao decided to tell her mum that she was a lesbian in a letter on her 20th birthday. At first, her mother was very disappointed about her sexual orientation. They didn't talk to each other for about a month. Then one day, Qiao found a letter on her table from her mother, saying she now understood her daughter and accepted her sexuality.
Now Qiao is 24 years old and has brought her girlfriend home. Her mum put her and her girlfriend’s hand together and told them to be happy and she burst into tears.

and told them to be happy"
Qiao’s mum’s attitude changed from disappointment to understanding. Qiao said she was not worried about the future of the LGBT community, even though there are still some traditional opinions that say same-sex love is wrong.
People like Qiao's mum are finally coming to realize that LGBT groups have a right to love too.
